FEI Dressage Task Force is Set Up
The FEI General Assembly in Buenos Aires (ARG) concluded with a wonderful Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony at the Sociedad Rural.
Part of the programme for the evening’s event, included the discerning of a new Award - FEI Best Groom. This much deserved and great distinction went to Great Britain’s Jenny Ellis, a highly accomplished and experienced groom whose dedication to equestrian sport has been outstanding. Jenny was the stable manager for the GB Para-Equestrian Dressage Team.

Following the resignation of all the members of the FEI Dressage Committee, the Bureau has agreed to the setting up of a Dressage Task Force to deal with the following aspects:
- issues surrounding the very significant area of the training and development;
- assessment and selection of judges for major championships and Olympic Games;
- fitness for purpose of the method of judging Dressage;
- competitions needs thorough review, both in terms of the number of judges, their positioning and the judging process;
- following significant feedback from NFs, it is clear that the decision to move from 4 to 3 riders in a team is not universally accepted as the best for the sport and this therefore needs reviewing;
- the system for qualification for Championships, and the receipt of Certificates of Capability for Championships, World Championships, and Olympic Games;
- finally there is a need to review the consultation process within Dressage and how it affects the structure of the committee going forwards to ensure maximum involvement by the key stakeholders both internal to the sport and external within the greater sporting Olympic and Paralympic environment.
The confirmed members of the Task Force are: Frank Kemperman (NED), chairman and representative of the event organisers; Richard Davison (GBR), riders representative; Robert Dover (USA), trainers representative; and Alain Francqueville (FRA), chef d’équipe.
The Task Force will be in place until the 2009 General Assembly by which time a new Dressage Committee will be elected.

Greenwich will be venue for 2012 Olympic equestrian sport
The equestrian competitions of the London 2012 Olympic Games will stay at Greenwich Park, Olympic bosses have announced November 20th.
There had been concerns about the suitability of Greenwich Park from local residents and figures in the horse world. Members of the Olympic board met yesterday to discuss the potential cost savings of changing the venues for the 2012 Olympic basketball, equestrian sports, badminton, handball and rhythmic gymnastics. But they announced that Olympic and Paralympic equestrianism, and the running and show jumping phases of the modern pentathlon, will stay at Greenwich Park after a review by accountants KPMG said no saving would be made by moving.
In a statement to the press, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), said: “None of the alternative venues for the equestrian events were close enough to accommodate the modern pentathlon show jumping event, which needs to be located close to the Olympic Park to allow the completion of all five events within one day. Any move away from Greenwich would therefore result in a doubling-up of facilities with the need to build a separate Modern penthalon show jumping facility close to the Olympic park. […].

British Dressage National Convention 2008 with Jean Bemelmans
By Jan Milne for dressagedirect
The well-respected Belgian trainer Jean Bemelmans shared his training methods at the 2008 KBIS British Equestrian National Convention at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre, Bucks on 15-16 November.
At the age of 17, Jean moved to Germany and began training with Robert Schmidtke where he stayed for 5 years, prior to commencing his career as riding instructor. In 1984 he became a German citizen and in 1989 was honoured with the title ‘Reitmeister’.
Apart from training a large number of international Grand Prix riders and having ridden on gold medal-winning teams, Bemelmans has trained the Spanish team for the past 15 years. During this time, he has taken them from being non-competitive on the National stage to a country that has won both team and individual Olympic and World championship medals.
An estimated 800 interested listeners attended the British Dressage Convention.
Jean demystified the process of getting the most out of 6 combinations which he had never seen before. He wanted to see them with a fresh eye and show the spectator what he would do at home. Again stripping back the movements to basic common sense, straightness, impulsion, softness, lightness, and always a quick and clear response demanded by the rider at Jean’s insistence.
Jean’s working in hand on introduction to Piaffe was enlightning, with focus on contact with the horses rein and above all patience.
Jean defused another horse through the use of shoulder fore and shoulder in, always asking to horse to refocus back to this young rider and to a point where the horse really relaxed and seemed less ‘on the boil’ but still very expressive and quite playful. Jean stressed the importance of safety and developing the feeling of between hand and leg where more leg gives the horse true confidence and allows him to relax and trust the rider. This was a great demonstration of horsemanship which will last long for all those who have visited the British Dressage Convention. And for those who have not, the news will have been spread!

J would like to thank you, Princesse HAYA, for taking care of the problems in our DRESSAGE world, and try to make possitive CHANGEMENTS in this aria.
We need BIG changes if we shall survive in our sport, with a new SPARCLE, SHOWTIME, MUSIC WITH SINGING, EXCITEMENTS in who is winning, and a new staff of judges with more courage to JUDGE WHAT THEY SEE, and not what they are dicted to... for the freedom of winning for all nationalities !
Only a woman of the quality of Princess HAYA has dared to stirr into this oldfashion world of the dressage... BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO !

Re: JO, WEG, WORLD CUP etc... derniers infos et commérages !!!

Edward Gal leads Moorlands Totilas in winning Grand Prix
Edward Gal and the black powerboy Totilas (Gribaldi x Glendale) continued their impressive string of wins at Intermediate level at the next stage Grand Prix. They debuted in Grand Prix by winning with the remarkable score of 73,68% at Moorland Dressage day during the international show Hippisch Hengelo in the eastern part of the Netherlands. Only 8 year old stallion Moorlands Totilas showed the optimal mixture between power and extreme movement possibilities on the one hand and suppleness and looseness on the other. A lot of colleagues at the Intermediate class will be relieved to get rid of the born winner in their class… Edward Gal was very happy with the win, however he stressed not to hurry: “The only thing Moorlands Totilas needs now is time. It takes two more years for the WEG Kentucky and almost four for the OG in London.”
Leida Collins-Strijk was the runner up aboard Jet Set D-son On Top (70,70%). Owner of Moorland Dressage stables Tosca Visser took some of her own donated prize money home by winning third price aboard Moorlands Opportunity (65,77%).
